Namitha has hinted to the press about her interest in taking to politics. She has said that she would love to be associated with a ‘good’ political party. The actress, who has made herself out-of-favour with Tamil and Telugu film producers by putting on oodles of weight, is keeping herself busy by inaugurating jewellery stores and textile showrooms.
Of late, Namitha has been indulging in many socially relevant causes including inaugurating eye-donation and blood-donation campaigns too. She took part in a rally held recently in the city meant to impress the members of the public to come forward to donate their eyes and register for eye-donation.
Namitha has a policy not to take any money from the organizers while taking part in events meant for such causes. She has also insisted many times in the past that like in abroad, Chennai too must have many public toilets for women; going further on the issue, Namitha recently inaugurated a public toilet for women at Royapettah recently after building it at her own cost.
She now wants to build many such ‘women-only’ toilets provided she gets financial assistance from non-governmental organizations. Queried as to whether her interest in socially relevant causes is a prelude to her entering politics, Namitha quipped, “Yes, of course, I do take interest in politics. I want to be associated with a ‘good’ party which works for the welfare of the people; otherwise, I shall continue to serve the people in my personal capacity!”
