A city Court has issued arrest warrants against actress Anjali following her continual boycott of hearings in a defamation suit filed against her by actor-director Kalanjiyam.
A few months back, Anjali walked out of her Chennai residence after accusing her Aunt Barathi Devi of trying to ‘swindle’ her hard-earned property in connivance with Kalanjiyam. After remaining out-of-bounds for her relatives and friends, Anjali resurfaced in Hyderabad a few days only to claim that she had been taking a much-needed ‘rest’ in Mumbai.
In the meantime, Kalanjiyam filed a defamation suit against Anjali in which he played the lead role besides directing the film. In the petition filed with the Saidapet Court, Kalanjiyam had pleaded that Anjali’s accusations had damaged his ‘reputation’ and wanted proper action to be taken against the actress.
Anjali didn’t attend the hearings of the case for which summons were served to her. Justice Rajalakshmi, who is hearing the case, issued orders yesterday for arresting Anjali for her continued absence during the hearings. Sources close to Anjali say that Anjali hasn’t been able to attend the hearings in the Court due to her non-stop shooting schedule of Telugu films.
