Producer KR (Kothanda Ramaiah)@Keyar, has been elected as the president of the Tamil film producers council at the elections(2013-2015) held at YMCA ground,Chennai, today (September 7). In a keenly fought elections, he defeated Kalaipuli S Thanu and Sivasakthi Pandian by securing 449 votes.
The elections presided over by Justices Venkatraman and Jagadessan, saw a three way competition between producer A Kothanda Ramaiah (‘Thayaarippaalargal Nalan Kaakum Ani’), Kalaipuli S Thanu(‘Tamilnadu Thayarippalargal Munnetra Ani) and Sivasakthi Pandian.
The strong producer’s council of more than 3000 regular members, has around 832 regular members, who are eligible for voting. More than 700 members of the council voted today to elect candidates to six main posts including president, 2 vice presidents, secretary and treasurer and 21 executive committee members.
Prominent names from the Tamil film industry including actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijayakanth, K Bhagyaraj, Khushboo, Devayani and director Mani Ratnam cast their votes.
The votes polled were counted in the evening and KR was declared as the winner for the president post. Subhas chandra bose and T G Thiagarajan from KR’s team were elected as vice presidents while Radhakrishnan from KR’s team was elected as the honorary treasurer of the council. Studio Green’s KE Gnanavelraja and Amma Creations’ T Siva were elected secretaries who are also the members of KR.
KR, after his election as the President, told reporters that he would work for the betterment of the Tamil film industry, in co-operation with all connected with the industry. He also thanked the CM Jayalalithaa for the Government support for conducting the elections peacefully.
Meanwhile, Kalaipuli S Thanu, the main contender, cries foul over vote count of the electronic voting machines which has been used in the council elections for the first time. He also accused that the Election officer Sujatha helped the KR’s team to rig the election by not disclosing the details of votes polled properly.
