Lyricist Vairamuthu, who has just achieved the feat of penning a whopping number of 7,000 songs in films, is to be felicitated at a grand function to be held in Chennai on 14th October.
Though many might hesitate to mention Vairamuthu’s name in the same breath as the late and legendary Kannadasan and Vaali when it comes to quality, the sheer number of lyrics Vairamuthu has penned so far has been amazing. Vairamuthu has also penned many literary works and books. Debuting in 1980 with the song Idhu Pon Maalai Pozhudhu… (sung by SPB) in the film Nizhalgal which had music by Maestro Ilaiyaraaja, Vairamuthu has also won many awards and prizes in his 33-year career.
The awards include the six national awards for ‘best lyricist’ and an equal number of awards from the Govt. of Tamil Nadu. Vairamuthu would be felicitated for his feat during the audio-launch of the film Kangaroo to be held on 14th October at the Chennai Trade Centre. The film also marks the debut as music director of playback singer Srinivas. Vairamuthu has penned all the 6 songs in the film directed by Samy.
Popular actors, actresses, music directors, directors, playback singers, etc. would take part in the event wherein an audio-video presentation on Vairamuthu and the top 10 ‘most popular’ songs of him would be screened.
