For about a fortnight, director-actor Cheran was in the news for all the wrong reasons. While most empathized, some simply advertised and blamed the director of being attention seeking. As was reported earlier, Cheran’s daughter Damini allegedly fell in love with the assistant director Chandru and wanted to leave her parents and live with him.
The girl had taken up the issue with the law that she was persuaded, against her wish, by her parents, to leave her love interest. At the end of two weeks of happening headlines and emotional turmoil, the police finally convinced her to concentrate on the higher priorities of life now. Speaking to the media, the relieved father said “I am content that my daughter returned home with us. For once, I feel at home and I believe the most important reason for this relief is the police, friends and well wishers. Many people handled the issue as it were their own problem and helped solve the matter, also providing moral support all along.” Thanking the many well wishers, Cheran continued “In my opinion, of all the assets a man has saved up, friends make for the most important of them all.
As for my daughter, I have left her on her own for a while, until she bounces back to normalcy. I want her to concentrate on her studies now.” It doesn’t matter who he is to the society, but after all, Cheran is also a loving father, isn’t he?
