Actress Suhasini, married to ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam, is to star in a Tamil film after a long time. Known for many of her heroine-oriented films in the eighties, Suhasini was one of the leading heroines of her times more than 20 years back. She is not seen much in Tamil films but has been starring in Malayalam and other language films.
She was also part of the cast in the controversial Malayalam film Kalimannu which released recently and had the hugely controversial Shweta Menon in the lead role. She has now agreed to star in a Tamil film titled Ramanujan based on the life of the mathematical genius.
Suhasini plays the mother of Ramanujan in the film. History reveals the significant role played by Ramanujan’s mother in his ascent. As such, Suhasini’s role is quite a prominent one in the film which is directed by Pon Gnanasekaran, who has made thought-provoking films such as Mogamul and Bharathi in the past.
It is also said that Madhavan was first approached to play the lead role in the film but he refused to do so. As such, Abhinay, grandson of the late and legendary Gemini Ganesan, makes his debut as hero in Tamil films by essaying the lead role in Ramanujan.
