The prev-gen was quite familiar with Mahendran’s Panneer Pushpangal that threw light on the love that blossoms during the adolescence. Apparently, after years we had Selvaraghavan gushing forth with a hyper-version of the same film that was quite raw in its theme. Joining the bandwagon now is director Susintheeran as he comes up with an extended version of the same theme. In simple terms, the film distinctly gets a label of ‘Must Watch Movie’ for all ages as it deals with a much contemporary issue. The abrupt physical intimacy, the immediate thought of abortion and the desolated babies with a clear dark future – it’s a wayward culture of the present generation has been very well projected in Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer. The film marks the on screen debut of Santhosh with Vazhakku En 18/9 fame Manisha Yadav starring opposite him in female lead character.
Following a slim phase of friendship, Karthik (Santhosh) and Swetha (Manisha Yadav) fall in love. When they succumb to the physical passion, problems take a rise in toll as Swetha finds herself pregnant. Humiliations strike when her father (Jayaprakash) settles down for amicable decision of getting them married, but faces opposition from Karthik’s father, who easily suggests abortion. Situations turn worse for Swetha as it becomes out of the question due to complication and finally gives birth to a child. But things don’t end on a happy note as the newborn baby much prior to stepping on land has a pathetic beginning.
The trailers and film’s title might have left us with a blatant assumption that this film is just a teen flick with a toast of adult theme. Naturally, you’ll find such terminologies during the first half, but the story takes a turn in its second hour with a lot of emotional pathos. Susintheeran seems to have gone through an intense research on how illegal abortions are processed in corporate style across the colleges. Reference of hostel wardens, ID cards, et al – these factors pose as a strict shock. The performance level of Manisha is quite fine, but the charming effect of love remains completely absent in both her and Santhosh. Jayaprakash, Poornima Bhagyaraj and others have done a decent job. The director has showcased the problems from the perception of parents, the youth of misdeeds and how their selfish act results in the misfortune life of a baby.
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s musical score is the additional advantage that elevates the visual elegance of cinematographer Surya.
Aadhalal Kadhal Seiveer remains raw in places and Susintheeran goes for no compromise for commercial values. The film may appeal to the miniscule audience in spite of its theme, but it’s obvious that the director has made the film completely to happiness and satisfaction.
Verdict: Raw, Bold & Emotional…
