Pretty Priyamani has almost been forgotten by the Tamil film industry. It is indeed ironical that the despite being one of the very few actresses in Tamil who can dub in her own voice for her roles in films, Priyamani finds herself out of favour with film producers and directors in Kollywood.
Priyamani was spotted on Tamil screen in the Tamil-Kannada bilingual Charulatha early last year and hasn’t done any Tamil film(s) after that. Though not courted by the Tamil film industry, Priyamani is busy with projects in languages such as Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
She has a few heroine-oriented scripts on hand including Chandee in Telugu which is being directed by V. Samudra. Sarath Kumar and Aashish Vidyarthi play important roles in the period flick, which has Priyamani essaying the role of a warrior princess. She is also starring in the Malayalam film The True Story besides awaiting the release of Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone where she has performed the sizzling 1234 ‘item song’ with Shah Rukh.
Talking recently to newspersons, the national award-winning actress said “As an actress, I want to do divergent characters. After Charulatha, I was offered a few scripts which resembled the film’s story and wasn’t interested in taking them up. I would love to star in all kinds of character and won’t want to differentiate films such as ‘commercial’ and ‘arty’ films!”
