Yesteryear actress Kanaka, best known for her pretty big eyes, has been fighting her battle against deadly cancer.
Reportedly the charismatic artist was diagnosed with advanced stages of cancer in late January this year and was undergoing treatment in Karunyam Pain and Palliative Care Unit in Alappuzha, Kerala.
But the treatment has failed to ward off the illness and the actress now is in her final days of life. Since she has no dear one to take care of her, she has been moved to a facility to take care for cancer patients during their last days .
Kanaka reportedly has denied permission to visitors during her days ensuing her end. The hospital too denies visitation from anyone.
Daughter of popular yesteryear actress Devika, Kanaka shot into fame through her first film, ‘Karagattakkaran’(1989) opposite Ramarajan at a very young age(16).
She has acted in more than 40 films in Tamil and Malayalam as leading lady with many top actors like Rajinikanth, Mammootty,Mohanlal, Vijayakanth, Prabhu and Karthik.
Her last film was Kusruthy (2004) in Malayalam, and in Tamil her last appearance was Simha Rasi(1999).
The 40-year old actress left cinema arena after her mother Devika died in 2002 and was leading to the life of loneliness. In 2010, after a very long hiatus she was back in the news , when she made a claim that her husband Muthukumar, a California-based engineer has gone missing within 15 days of their secret marriage that took place in 2007.
She also made allegations against ‘Aavi Amutha’, a lady popular known as a medium to contact the spirits of the dead, over her husband missing. Following this, Amudha went ahead and filed a civil defamation suit against Kanaka in Madras high court and the case still is active.
Against this backdrop, the news about her being battling with deadly cancer has sent shock-waves among her Cinema fans.
Our prayers go out for the actress.
