Director and Actor Vijay’s father S.A. Chandrasekaran’s remarks comparing himself to the late Anna and his son to the legendary MGR have sparked off a fresh bout of controversy in Kollywood as well as in the political circles. Critics say such remarks are fraught with danger as Vijay and his father might face alienation from within and outside Kollywood.
SAC has always openly talked of his political ambitions and his plans to make his son Vijay, the next MGR. But little would have anyone guessed that he he would equate himself to the late great Arignar Anna, the founder of DMK party.
In 2009, to make it to the big stage, Vijay fan clubs unofficially run by SAC was converted as makkal iyakkam , and the actor did show case his fan strength at couple of occasion. Later that year SAC and Vijay did meet Rahul Gandhi and seeked the top post in the state congress, but was side kicked by the Tamil Nadu Congress and the then ruling party in the state (DMK) who also gave a tough time to Vijays film from releasing in theatres.
In 2011 election year, Vijay did try getting some constituency to fight from under the AIADMK led alliance, but other deals were worked out and Vijay gave a open support alone. After Jaya’s landslide victory, Vijay issued a statement saying that his Iyakkam did play a ‘crucial’ role in the victory with no serious takers. The new regime gave SAC the producer council chief post, mother shobha was decorated with Kala Sabha head post, and Vijay’s film have been having a smooth release in the state. But now the situation is seeing a change.
Last months Vijay’s birthday celebrations were cancelled at the last minute after his fans went on putting banners of Vijay as the next chief minister of the state. No one officially spoke on this fearing the film Thalaivaa must face tough time getting released in the state.
But now SAC speech of comparing Vijay to be another MGR and himself as ‘Anna’, who MGR’s mentor is well sketched plan to irk the government and inviting them to act, and using that as base to announce their future plans.
When contacted SAC office, he remains tight-lipped as of now.
