The Hindu Makkal Katchi (HMK) has strongly opposed the choice of Asin as the heroine opposite Suriya by director Gautham Vasudev Menon in his upcoming directorial venture Dhruva Natchathiram. Menon and Suriya, who had worked earlier in hit films such as Kaakka Kaakka and Vaaranam Aayiram, are coming together for the third time in Dhruva Natchathiram which was announced some time back.
It was first said that Trisha would be Suriya’s heroine in the film; then the names of Amala Paul and Samantha came up. Finally, it was reported that it was likely that Asin might be paired up opposite Suriya as the pair had already starred in successful films such as Ghajini and Vel. Asin, who is out of demand in bollywood wants to make a comeback in Tamil films, has agreed to star opposite Suriya in Menon’s film.
However, HMK says it won’t allow Asin to be paired opposite Suriya as the actress had not respected the sentiments of Tamils by going ahead and shooting in Lanka for a Hindi film soon after the barbaric killing of thousands of Tamil by the Rajapakse government. Asin, however, stated that the option of where to shoot wasn’t in her hands and added that it was always decided by the producer and director.
HMK has said that it would hold elaborate protest rallies and picket the residences of Suriya and Menon if Asin is finalized as the heroine.
