Though she has been around for many years now, Poorna (born as Shamna Kasim) hasn’t managed to make inroads in the Tamil industry. Despite her decent frame and a pretty face, she wasn’t getting offers to her liking. She now makes a grand re-entry in Tamil films through Padam Pesum wherein she has been paired opposite Sakthi Vasu, son of filmmaker P. Vasu.
Though she is able to dub in her own voice, which is becoming a very important trait from producers perspective, she has remained on the sidelines for long. Her last film was Vithagan opposite Parthiepan and she has a handful of projects at present including Thagararu, Padam Pesum, Jannal Oram and Arjunan Kadhali. Poorna is said to have gone that ‘extra bit’ in her performance in Padam Pesum including some glam-filled sequences.
Poorna, who has starred in all the South Indian languages, hopes that her pairing opposite Sakthi Vasu would be loved and appreciated by movie-goers. “I have done a few films in Tamil but none of them has turned out to be a super-hit film. However, I believe Padam Pesum might just change that. On the very first day itself, the promotional shot was exhaustive as it required me getting stamped on the face several times . I had undergone lots of similar pain during the making of this film and hope everything pays off,” Poorna concludes.
