Mani Ratnam’s Chennai godown destroyed in fire

maniratnam-ravanA fortnight ago renowned director Mani Ratnam celebrated his birthday, hoping to wash off stains from failures of his last year efforts. On the contrary, for Mani, who has been keeping a low profile ever since his last K town offering Kadal sank without a trace at the box office, looks like, bad times are here to stay !

In the most unfortunate of cases, the go-down owned by him caught fire!!! Located at North Crescent Road in T Nagar, Chennai, heat waves surged through the air as onlookers made vain attempts at containing the blazing fire which ceased to surrender to their minuscule efforts.

Soon, a fire alarm was signaled with fire fighters reaching the spot and taking necessary action. However, it was only 2 hours later that the situation looked under control. By then a majority of the studio had gone up in flames and the equipment lay buried in dark ashes. A vast array of costumes and preserved film roles were also lost in the mishap.

Although, the reason for it is yet unknown, Mani Ratnam suspects it to be a work of an outsider. “In all probability it could be the work of money lenders who threatened to cause him damage after his last movie – Kadal, failed miserably at the box office” mentions an onlooker present at the site. The Chennai Police is on the hunt and doing their best to arrive at a conclusion regarding the same.
