Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it is the eminent prosperity of the gritty Superman reboot, Man of Steel, which proved Clark Kent’s ability to speed past bullets and take $196.7 million (£125 million) at the box office in less than three days.
To put views into perspective, that’s not at the level of an Iron Man 3 or The Avengers, but it still did earn more than what most people expected Man of Steel to be worth. It may yet crawl towards $1bn worldwide if it keeps pace and publicizes a Man Of Steel 2 that could meet the expectations of the spectators, true marvel-style.
British actor Henry Cavill stars as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, in this movie which also tipped down the record for grandest opening in June previously clenched by the Disney-Pixar film Toy Story 3. The third installment to the Toy Story saga raked in $110 million when it opened in 2010. Superman Returns, the previous Superman film starring Brandon Routh in the lead, launched with a respectable $52.5 million which was unacceptable for a Marvel product in 2006.
