The talk in the industry is about the new-found camaraderie between top music directors Yuvan Shankar Raja and A.R. Rahman, the twin-Oscar winner. Yuvan recently recorded a song in his voice in Rahman’s music for actor Dhanush’s upcoming film Mariyaan being directed by popular adman Bharat Bala.
The recording of the said song, penned by Dhanush himself, marks a new chapter in the relationship between Rahman and Yuvan, not seen as the best of friends till date. The manner and the speed with which the song was recorded has taken the industry folks by huge surprise.
This is the first time that Rahman is scoring music for a Dhanush-starrer. When the film was launched a few months back, few would have visualized Rahman inviting Yuvan Shankar Raja, one of his contemporaries and competitor to the top slot on Tamil films, to sing a song in the film in his music. Yuvan giving his consent immediately to Rahman’s proposal and recording the song is another surprise.
Asked about the experience in singing in Rahman’s music, Yuvan says “When Rahman called me to sing a song in Mariyaan. I agreed to his idea and merely asked him as to when I would have to come over for the recording. I went to the recording theatre and like any playback singer, followed as instructed by the music director. I did not give any musical inputs.
“I loved the music and I appreciated Rahman for the same. When I congratulated him for the song output, Rahman was moved and hugged me and expressed his happiness, which was very striking indeed!”
