Killadi, which stars Bharath and Mona Chopra alias Nila in lead roles, was launched some years back but hit many hurdles during its shooting stage. Distributor-producer Salem Chandrasekaran is finally gearing up to release the film in theatres. Vivek, who plays a major role in the film, has come under fire from the late Sivaji’s fans for portraying the role of ‘Appar’.
Late and legendary Sivaji Ganesan had, in one of his films, immortalized the role of Appar by portraying the same to perfection to the delight of his fans and critics. Vivek’s stills released recently displayed him in the same role as he looked like aping the late actor’s performance. This has infuriated the fans of the legendary actor.
Boominathan, president of Sivaji Fans’ Club, has strongly objected to this. In his statement, he has said “Vivek donning the role of Appar appear to be an insult to Sivaji Ganesan. I have spoken personally to Vivek as he shouldn’t be seen as insulting the entire Hindu community. If need be, Sivaji’s fans would take to streets to ensure that the sequence doesn’t figure in the film.”
Chandrasekaran of Sivaji Social Welfare Forum has also condemned Vivek. “When I spoke to director A. Venkatesh about this, he informed that Vivek was only playing a godman’s role and that of Appar. We have passed on this info to actor Prabhu, Sivaj’s son. Venkatesh also informed that they were all Sivaji’s fans and would do nothing to erode the image of the late actor,” said Chandrasekaran.
