Achieving commercial success as well as satisfying the critics is a tight rope-walk for many directors. Most of them are forced to compromise on most occasions but Bala isn’t one of them. His latest film Paradesi has won him acclaim from critics, fans and movie-goers alike but the performance of the film at the box-office is not much to write about.
Deviating from the usual practice followed by film-makers, Bala didn’t arrange for special show for Kollywood fraternity prior to the film’s actual release in theatres. However, he has been getting appreciation from the artistes for sure. Vikram, who watched the film in a city theatre, drove straight down to Bala’s residence and expressed his appreciation by holding the director in a tight embrace.
Vikram also said he was ready to star in the director’s film at any time. Sneha and Prasanna, who got married late last year, also visited Bala and appreciated him for his work in the film. Bala’s wife Madhimalar reportedly watched the film with rapt attention at a theatre recently. More and more accolades are pouring in as critics say this might be Bala’s best film as on date in terms of creativity.
However, Bala is said to be terribly upset by the box-office reports which are far from encouraging. Though crucially acclaimed as his ‘best effort’, reports say that Paradesi might end up as Bala’s ‘worst film’ in terms of theatrical collections.
