Ezhil is easily one of the most practical-minded directors around in Kollywood. The burly film-maker hit the bull’s eye with his debut venture with the Vijay-Simran starrer Thulladha Manamum Thullum almost one-and-a-half decades back. He then went on to direct Ajith in the super-hit Poovellaam Un Vaasam. After that, he has been making films but not at regular intervals.
After making Deepavali with ‘Jayam’ Ravi in the lead in 2007, Ezhil took a 5-year break and directed last year’s Manam Kothi Paravai which had Sivakarthikeyan in the lead. All his films have been commercial hits but Ezhil has hardly gone away from the ‘romantic’ track. In a recent interview, he spoke at length about his past films and his upcoming film.
“I have always believed that a film-maker can achieve commercial success without showing blood-splitting stunt sequences. I have directed Vijay, Ajith and Sartth Kumar in the past. Of late, though, I have not able to work with them. I treat Vijay and Ajith as my two eyes and would love to work with them on any given day.
“Even last year’s Manam Kothi Paravai did fairly good business at the box-office. I’m presently making Desingu Raja starring Vimal, Bindu Madhavi and Suri in lead roles. Imman has scored the film’s music and I feel confident that I have one more commercial success up my sleeve. My policy is simple: narrate the tale simply sans blood,” concludes Ezhil.
