Vijay Sethupathi has come a long way. A string of successful films which happened late last year including Sundara Pandian (where he played a villain) and the success of small-budget films such as Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom and Pizza (wherein he played the lead role) have firmly established him among the list of bankable heroes in Tamil films.
His call-sheet diary is said to be filled till end-2017; can you believe it? For a guy who started his career by starring in small roles in films such as Vennila Kabadikuzhu, Lee and graduated to playing the hero in the national award-winning venture Thenmerku Paruvakkatru by Seenu Ramasamy, the rise is nothing less than meteoric. The actor, who has properly trained under Koothupattarai, is said to be enjoying his new found ‘star’ status.
With films such as Soodhu Kavvum, Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Rummy, Pannaiyarum Padminiyum, Vasanthakumaran, Sangudevan and Mellisai in his kitty and in talks with more producers to star in other films as well, Vijay Sethupathi doesn’t have time to even attend to his cellphone which buzzes intermittently during his shoots.
Vijay, however, has a fantastic strategy in selecting his films. He is said to prefer directors who have had experience in making short-films and are hungry for success . As such, most of the films he is part of at present, are being directed by short-film maker who are debuting as directors in Kollywood.
