Ever since superstar Rajinikanth decided to be on his own (as suggested by Kamal Haasan), he has been the undisputed ‘superstar’ of Tamil films for over three decades now. On the contrary, though all of Kamal Haasan’s films are critically acclaimed, they have not turned out to be huge box-office successes. It is therefore, surprising that one of Rajini’s records has been broken by a Kamal-starrer.
‘Vishwaroop‘, the hindi version of Kamal Haasan’s controversial Vishwaroopam, has overtaken superstar Rajinikanth’s Robot (Hindi version of Enthiran: The Robot) in terms of collections netted on the first day of its release.
‘Vishwaroop’ released on Feb 1, all over the Hindi belt in northern India, netted a whopping Rs.1.89 crores via ticket sales, beating Rajini’s Robot by Rs.0.14 crores. Robot had earned Rs.1.75 crore in it’s first day.
It is to be noted that Vishwaroop has been released in more halls than Robot. Balaji Motion Pictures the distributors of Vishwaroop has made extra efforts to get the film released in maximum number of halls in North India.
In its first weekend “Robot” had earned Rs.7.25cr crore and collected Rs.11 crore net in its opening week. We will need to keep an eye on whether ‘Vishwaroop’ overtake ‘Robot’ in first weekend collection too.
*Update- Vishwaroop also beats Robot in the First Week End Collection, Day 1 – 1.89crs, Day 2- 2.47crs, Day 3 – 3.29crs ; Total -7.66crs
