Noted director Balu Mahendra has said that in his opinion, the upcoming film Paradesi is the ‘best film’ directed by his student Bala as on date. The mercurial Bala, who has made only six films including Sethu, Nandha, Pithamagan, Naan Kadavul, Avan Ivan and the yet-to-be released Paradesi, has built up a reputation around himself as a film-maker of repute who never compromises on his screenplay.
Bala’s fourth film as director in Naan Kadavul won him the national award for ‘best direction’. Paradesi stars Atharva and Vedhika in lead roles.
Balu Mahendra, who often calls Bala as his ‘eldest son’ in the Kollywood family, recently watched the special premiere of Paradesi arranged by Bala for his close friends within and outside the industry. Emerging after watching the film at the Four Frames auditorium Balu Mahendra was all praise for Bala’s work.
He reportedly spoke to Bala and congratulated him for making an ‘excellent’ film and voiced his personal opinion that in his view, Paradesi is Bala’s best film as on date. Balu Mahendra is not in the habit of appreciating any film soon after watching it; even when he watched Bala’s earlier films, the congratulations took some time coming. However, with Paradesi, Bala not only appears to have impressed his mentor but also made him feel proud of his disciple.
