Vishal, who debuted in films with K.V. Anand’s Chellame which also had Bharat playing negative role, has come a long way as an actor over the years. Billed mainly as an action hero with the ‘angry young man’ image, Vishal silenced many of his harshest critics by putting in an amazing performance in Bala’s Avan Ivan a couple of years ago. Though the film wasn’t a commercial success, his performance didn’t go unnoticed.
After starring in a string of action and romantic films in Thamirabarani, Malaikkottai, Sivappadhikaram, Thoranai, Sathyam and Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai, Vishal was in need of a hit film to sustain himself in the industry. He is now very upbeat as his latest release Samar has not only got good reviews from the critics but has also been doing very well in theatres. Infact the film replaces Alex Pandian in many screens and today alone 120 screens have been officially added for the film.
The actor has a couple of interesting films which are gearing up for their release in theatres this year.
Sundar C’s Madha Gaja Raja (MGR) is billed as a laugh-riot and has Sarath Kumar’s daughter Varalakshmi and Anjali opposite Vishal as his two heroines in the film. From what has been written in the press about the film and from the information gatherd from the film’s Unit, the film has come out really well and might become one of Vishal’s all-time hits at the box-office.
Vishal also has Pattathu Yaanai directed by Boopathy Pandian (who made Malaikkottai earlier), oppsite debutant Aishwarya. Aishwarya is the daughter of ‘action king’ Arjun, under whom Vishal has earlier worked as an assistant director in vedham and Ezhumalai.
With these two films, this could very well turn out to be Vishal’s year at the box-office this year.
