Tamil audience generally wait for new releases during Sankranthi to add more joy to the festival, but the 2013 Pongal releases are creating a lot of confusions and has created a chaotic atmosphere. While Vishwaroopam’s fate of theatrical release is yet to be settled due to Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association and the Confederation of Theatre Owners and Distributor’s Associations opposition over the film release on DTH, the changes in the release dates of Alex Pandian and Samar have not helped the cause. As per the earlier announcement, Vishwaroopam, Alex Pandian, Samar and Puthagam were scheduled for this Sankrathi release. Now, Samar has backed out from the Pongal race due to shortage of theatres and other reasons. Whereas Alex Pandian, which was supposed to release on January 12, has been advanced by a day. The film will see the light on January 11. However, it is not the same case with Vishwaroopam, as Kamal Hassan and theatres-distributors are yet to find the solution. The actor’s decision to release the film on DTH platform a day before the official release have not gone well with other sectors of the industry. Nonetheless, the second-round of discussion between Kamal Hassan and theatres-distributors happened last night and people are left with no clues about the meeting. But the interesting part of the story is that the advance booking of the show has already begun. Meanwhile, the releases of Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya and Puthagam are also ready for release on January 13.
