Everyone was surprised when Suriya’s Maattrraan faced an editing job post its release. Joining the list is Neethane En Ponvasantham which faced the scissors in spite of being the most awaited release of the year. However, a strong presence by the Vikram Prabhu starrer Kumki at the box office has made things tough for the movie which expected to hold on to a top slot post its release.
Now, adding to the setback we hear that Gautham Menon has been urged to trim the movie by ten minutes. Many say the movie has not lived up to the expectations owing to its slow pace.Gautham who is the producer cum director of the flick had banked his hopes on the movie eyeing a good run at the box office. In fact his home banner Photon Kathaas has produced the movie. On the contrary now he is at the mercy of the theater owners who have promised an increased business following his decision to cut off certain scenes.
Meanwhile, industry insiders are of the view that the audience is pampered with Hollywood movies that have a comparatively shorter running time. It is quite obvious when they look at an Indian movie they expect a complete package in a similar time frame. It is too demanding for the makers of the movie. But the fact is a new challenge awaits the directors as they need to really work hard with their editors in these testing times. We hope Gautham finds an increased support in the coming days.
