The culture of ‘re-releasing’ old classics in theatres has been spreading ever so rapidly. After a couple of films of the legendary Sivaji Ganesan, it now appears to be the turn of superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan to get into the ‘re-release’ mode. Reports emanating from Kollywood suggest that efforts are on to re-release in theatres the old classic Ninaithale Inikkum which starred the celebrated duo.
Considered as one of the ever-green hits of Tamil cinema and directed by K. Balachander, Ninaithale Inikkum is said to be getting spruced up as it is undergoing a ‘digital transformation’ prior to its re-release in theatres in a few months’ time from now. The film, which had amazing musical score by ‘Mellisai Chakravarthy’ M.S. Viswanathan and had the likes of Jayaprada and Geetha, would be a visual treat to today’s generation.
Work is on to convert the film into digital mode for some time. Released in 1979, Ninaithale Inikkum was an instantaneous hit as it did very well in theatres and the songs were a huge rage among music lovers in general and the youth in particular. The digital transformation is a challenging and tedious work, sources point out. A dedicated team is put on the job.
The film’s re-release is scheduled for March next year. Before that, the makers of the film are planning to organize a huge function in Chennai on the 21st of January to honour the lead cast members and technicians of the film. Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, K. Balachander, M.S. Viswanathan and others are likely to take part in the function.
