Comedians Actors playing the lead in Tamil films is not new formula in tamil film.
Even the current generation lead comedians santhanam, Ganja karuppu, Karunas have all played the lead role. For the case, Appukkutty, who won the national award for ‘best supporting’ actor for his role in Suseendhiran’s Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai, played the lead role in Mannaru which released a few months ago. Now another comedian turns hero in an upcoming film.
‘Parotta’ Soori, who played Sasikumar’s friend in his latest hit film Sundarapandian, is the one who is now being ‘pushed’ into playing the lead role. Soori debuted as an actor, as one of the room mates in Kadhal, but the first meaty role was with with Suseendhiran’s Vennila Kabadikuzhu. His character in the film earned him the nick-name of ‘Parotta’ Soori. He followed it up with films such as Kullanarikotam and with a few more notable performances.
Though efforts to make him a hero were made last year too, Soori didn’t agree to the proposal at that time. Now, he has consented to play the lead role in a film to be made by the same production house which made Mannaru. Soori was initially reluctant to take up the offer , he gave up after listening to the script as it was on his lines.
Efforts are on to locate a suitable heroine for Soori and to finalize the rest of the cast and other technicians who would be working in it.
