The film Viswaroobam which has Kamal Haasan in the lead role is being telecast through DTH service on the day of its theatrical release. Theatre owners have strongly objected to this. They have warned that by doing so, a situation will arise to close the theatres.
Viswaroobam is a very high budgeted film which has been produced with ultra modern technology on par with Hollywood movies. Kamal has produced and directed this film. For the first time Auro 3D sound technology has been used in this film.
This film has been produced in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi languages. The audio CD of this film has been released today (7th December). Kamal has decided to release this film on 11th January.
In order to curb video piracy, Kamal has decided to telecast this film through DTH service on the same day of its release. He also feels that there are chances for people to see this film who do not frequent to theatres.
Hence it has been decided to sell the DTH rights for a particular amount. The DTH service company can collect Rs 1000 or more from a customer. Because of this facility, all the family members can view this film on the TV by paying Rs 1000.
The film will be telecast through DTH service on the previous night of its release. Kamal had already spoken to the members of the Producers Council and sought their support.
Producers have mentioned that they will decide this matter after convening the Producers Council meeting but the theatre owners have vehemently condemned this. They have mentioned that all the other producers will follow the method of Kamal and hence there will no crowd in the theatres.
The Theatre Owners Association are urgently convening a meeting to discuss this matter. All the theatre owners of Chennai will be participating in this meeting.
Theatre owner Abirami Ramanathan while speaking about this said, “Telecasting Viswaroobam through DTH service is a serious matter. We will be deciding about this matter in the meeting.”
