The proprietor of Kamala Theatre and a popular personality of Tamil film industry, passed away in Madurai this morning. Chidambaram was an active supporter of cinema and politics, and was close to former Chief Minister M G Ramachandran and legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan.
A good actor and an activist, Chidambram was also part of the administration board of Madurai Meenakshi temple. He played a crucial character in ‘Thoonga Nagaram’ release last year.
The 76-year-old is survived by three sons and other family members. His last rites will be performed on Sunday at his native village Rangiyam in Pudukottai.
