Actor Vijay has hinted that a sequel to the successful Thuppakki could very well be in the offing. The actor has been going through a tense period of time at present in the face of vehement protests by Muslims and many Islamic organizations to the way the members of their community have been shown in Thuppakki which has been declared a ‘hit’ and has also been lauded by critics for its technical excellence and script.
Starring Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead, Thuppakki is easily the pick of the Deepavali releases in Kollywood with Simbu’s Poda Podi baggin a ‘distant’ second place. Despite this being not one of music director Harris Jayaraj’s best performances as on date, the film has managed to win critical acclaim (a rarity in Vijay’s films) for the stylish way it has been conceived and made by A.R. Murugadoss.
The controversy over the depiction of ‘Muslims’ in the film notwithstanding, the film has opened to a great response and the prediction by the trade circles is that it would be able to sustain the viewers’ interest for the next few weeks and might end up as a ‘super-hit’ film. This is great news for Vijay after the not-so-encouraging response to his Shankar-directed Nanban early this year. The film’s success has also made Kajal, the heroine, an extremely happy soul.
Vijay, who took part in the muhurat of his next film wherein he has been paired opposite Amala Paul, was asked by the scribes on the sidelines of the event as to why Jagadeesh (the name of the character he has essayed in Thuppakki) doesn’t get married to his ladylove Nisha. Vijay replied saying that he too put up this query to Murugadoss and added that the answer could be found in the sequel to be made later.
This has thrown ample hints that a sequel might well be in the offing. In the meantime, it is also said that Malayalam megastar Mohanlal might be starring in Vijay’s next film in a major role.
