Kamal Haasan has asserted that his upcoming film Viswaroopam is not anti-Islam. Readers are aware that despite being born and brought up in an orthodox Brahmin family, Kamal neither practized Hinduism nor ritualized the religion. Rarely would have one seen him performing ‘pooja’ or any other religious act.
Kamal was speaking to media on the sidelines of the screening of the trailer of Viswaroopam which has been made using ‘Auro 3-D’ sound technology. “It’s the first such film to be made in the country using this particular new technology,” Kamal said .
To a query by a reporter who wanted to know whether Viswaroopam was anti-Islam as it was depicting the dangers of Islamic fundamentalism, Kamal said “I’m not against any religion (except Hinduism?!). As such, Viswaroopam is also neither anti-Islam nor anti-Muslim. My wish is that people in the country should live in harmony irrespective of their religion or caste. I’m a Gandhian and I love humans and not their religions.
“I don’t celebrate religious beliefs but celebrate only humans and their successes. My approach is reflected in this film too; viewers and fans would realize this once the film releases,” said Kamal but refused to fix any particular date for the film to hit the screens. However, he said that the post-production work had been going on at a hectic pace.
