Vijay’s upcoming film Thuppakki has already met with a setback. The sales of the film’s audio, released a few weeks back, are not encouraging. The film, which is Vijay’s first film in the direction of A.R. Murugadoss, faced ‘title’ problems till a few days back when the production side finally reached an out-of-Court settlement with producer Ravidevan who had already had his film on the floors with the title of Kalla Thuppakki.
Produced by Kalaipuli Thanu, Thuppakki has been produced at a cost of Rs.40 crores. Sources close to the film’s Unit say that Vijay and Murugadoss were paid Rs.15 and Rs.5 crore each for the film. It is also said that Thanu is said to be seriously thinking about ‘exchanging’ the film with some other distributor so as to minimize whatever losses he might have in store in future.
With trade circles predicting that Suriya’s latest release Maatraan might end up making Rs.55 crores, Thanu has reportedly vowed to himself that he would try and ensure that Vijay-starrer Thuppakki rakes in at least Rs.60 crores. Vijay, who has played an army soldier named ‘Thuppakki Dinesh’ in the film, exudes confidence that his Deepavali release Thuppakki would hit the bull’s eye at the box-office.
However, while Vijay’s fans crying in unison that music and songs by Harris Jayaraj could have been better composed, the dip in sales of the audio has shocked Vijay, Thanu and Murugadoss. Gemini, which released the film’s audio, has reportedly decided to sell the CDs and cassettes at ‘cheap’ rates in all the small-town outlets in Chennai and across the State!
