The much-awaited Bollywood flick English Vinglish is hitting the screens all over the world today. The film gives the audiences a chance to watch erstwhile Bollywood queen Sridevi, who hasn’t starred in any film in the past 14 years. The film has aroused unprecedented curiosity amid fans of the actress across the country. EV is releasing in as many as 170 cinema halls across Tamil Nadu.
In respect of the number of halls in which a Hindi film is released in the State, English Vinglish has clearly overtaken the record held by Salman-Katrina Kaif starrer Ek Tha Tiger, released in August by a huge margin. Ek Tha Tiger released in 20 cinema halls in Chennai in August and in 30 other halls in other parts of the State,
English Vinglish is also dubbed into Tamil with the title Aangilam Vaangilam and is simultaneously released in Tamil Nadu along with the Hindi version. Distributors across the State have acquired the Tamil version of film’s release and distribution rights mainly because Ajith Kumar has played a ‘guest appearance’ in the role. The film is awaited in the State for Sridevi’s long-awaited comeback in films as also for Ajith’s presence.
English Vinglish is directed by debutant director Gauri Shinde, wife of popular Bollywood filmmaker R. Balki.
It remains to be seen as to whether English Vinglish manages to beat the record colletions of Ek Tha Tiger which touched a whopping Re.1 crore in the State.
