Aachi Manorama, the veteran comedienne and character artiste of Tamil films for more than half-a-century now, fell ill yesterday and was immediately rushed to a leading private hospital at Mylapore in Chennai. The actress is one of the few surviving links from the black-and-white era of films in the fifties and has found her way in the Guinness Book of World Records for starring in more than 1,000 films.
She is fondly referred to as ‘Aachi’ by the industry folks. The Septuagenarian actress had complaints of pain in the knee joints following which she underwent treatment which put her out of action for a few months. A couple of months ago,, Manoram had been to a temple in Kalahasti in the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. She slipped at the bathroom in the hotel where she was staying.
After suffering injuries on the head due to the fall, she was admitted to the hospital where she stayed for 45 days before recovering fully and returning home. The actress, who seen many generation of actors from the MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Jayalalitha, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth era to the present day stars, fell ill yesterday at her residence in Chennai.
She was admitted to a hospital where she is undergoing treatment. If she doesn’t develop any more complication, she would be release by this evening, the doctors at the hospital informed.
