Genelia D’Souza, the bubbly character on screen, is under trouble over a legal tangle. A court in Hyderabad has directed the police to register an FIR against her along with five directors of a real-estate firm. All of them have been charge with cheating a customer by not fulfilling their commitment to construct a duplex house at Maheswaram mandal on the outskirts of the city.
One Ch. Tirupathaiah, in his complaint before the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court here, had alleged that the firm had ‘failed’ to construct a duplex house. According to him, he had paid Rs 54 lakh towards booking the plot-cum-house in their venture. Genelia has been pulled into this case as she is the brand ambassador of the firm.
Tirupathaiah said that the firm’s managing director Sujith Reddy and other directors had promised to construct a duplex house on the plot in 2008. It has not been done so far, claims Tirupathaiah.
Tirupathaiah’s counsel Balaji Vadera categorically says that ‘Being the brand ambassador of the firm, Genelia also made false promises through advertisements and brochures and cooperated with other accused in cheating’.
The court directed Saifabad police to inquire into the matter and also to register a case against Genelia and five others for offences of cheating and under relevant sections of IPC.
