Rahman’s rocking performance at Oscars

Music maestro AR Rahman mesmerised actors, filmmakers, critics and movie buffs all over the world with his performance at the prestigious Academy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday, as a part of the Oscars band.

The two-Oscar winner enthralled the audience throughout the ceremony with his instrumentals and vocals. He had performed his tracks from the film ‘127 Hours’ at the Oscars last year.

“Oscar sangamam – If you are watching the Oscars live, catch our Oscar superband headed by Hans Zimmer perform tonight,” Rahman posted on his page on a social networking site, along with a photo of his co-performers.

In 2009, Rahman performed for the first time at the Oscar stage and in the same year he won two golden statuettes for best original score and best original song (‘Jai ho…’) for the movie ‘Slumdog Millionaire’.

The performances at the ceremony included Esperanza Spalding’s rendition of Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a Wonderful World’ as a tribute to the dozens of entertainment industry professionals who died in the last 12 months, including Jane Russell, Whitney Houston, Elizabeth Taylor and Etta James.
