Arjun is probably the only hero in the country who has been continually starring in action-based films for more than 25 years and still going strong. Born as a Kannadiga with the name Krishnaraja Sarja, Arjun’s passion for starring in and making films in Tamil is well-known. The actor is nearing a landmark of 150 films and has been roped in to play the lead in a trilingual film.
To be made in Tamil, Telugu as well as Kannada, Arjun’s 150th film has been titled as Prasad. The film would be produced in a grand manner by Ashok Keni under his banner A.K.K. Entertainment and has the stunning-looking Madhuri Bhattacharya as Arjun’s heroine. Ramakrishna, Samakrishna, Aswath, Shailaja Somasekar and Ramesh Bhatt form rest of the cast.
Sankalp, a deaf-and-dumb boy in real life, has played the same role in the film with an on-screen name Prasad. In Arjun’s own words, Sankalp has done an ‘excellent job’. Speaking further about the film, Arjun says “Doing Prasad has given me immense self-satisfaction. The script totally deviates from the usual filmy formula and takes the viewers along with it in a most practical manner. The viewers are sure to get emotional while watching the film and in particular Sankalp’s performance.
“I play a motor mechanic and await the birth of my child with big dreams; as it happens, Sankalp is born with the hearing and speech disorder. What happens next forms the crux of the story,” says Arjun and adds that “My films would always have some riveting action sequences but this film is different as it doesn’t have any fight sequence at all; nor does it have any duet song sequence.
“The film took part at the Berlin Film Festival and won appreciation from the critics. As always, Maestro Ilaiyaraaja has given his best for the film,” concludes Arjun. The film has been cinematographed by Sanjay while Manjo has penned the story and screenplay and has also directed film. Bharani has written the film’s dialogues.
