Andrea is going places nowadays. The soft-spoken actress doesn’t take her acting career very seriously. She made an impressive debut as heroine by playing Sarathkumar’s dutiful wife in ace director Gautham Menon’s Pachchaikili Muthucharam some years back. Though she was flooded with many more offers to act in films, she seemed largely disinterested in pursuing a career as an actress.
The actress, who is a qualified playback singer and has sung quite a few solo and romantic songs in films, was seen last year in Ajith’s landmark 50th film Mankatha opposite ‘action king’ Arjun. Andrea wasn’t the solo heroine in the film and was one of the four heroines along with Anjali, Trisha and Lakshmi Rai. Her role in the film, brief yet effective, won her accolades.
A year prior to that, she starred in the fantasy film Aayirathil Oruvan which had a huge star cast in Karthi, Reema Sen and Parthiban. In keeping with he policy of doing one film per year, she has started work on ‘Ulaganayagan’ Kamal Hassan’s Viswaroopam which would be her major release in 2012. Pretty Andrea was first cast as Dhanush’s heroine in last year’s Mayakkam Enna but for some reasons, she was replaced at the last minute by debutante Richa Gangopadhyaya.
She appears mighty excited to have got the opportunity to share screen space with Kamal Hassan. “I haven’t worked with him earlier. He plays the hero besides producing and directing the film, which is something unbelievable to look at and observe from close quarters. In between, he manages to keep the entire Unit members in splits by cracking jokes and narrating many interesting incidents.
“Within a few days of the shoot, I realized that nobody can be compared to Kamal Hassan when it comes to work. He’s an ‘acting school on wheels’; as far as his direction is concerned, I don’t think I possess the ability to comment about it. I’m also doing Vetrimaran’s Vada Chennai. I accept film offers only if the roles excite me and provide me scope to act,” concludes Andrea.
