Remember Maanu, the Singapore beauty who debuted as Ajith’s heroine in director Saran’s Kaadhal Mannan in 1998? Though the film went on to become a super-duper hit, Maanu didn’t commit herself to doing any more film. A bharatnatyam danseuse by profession, she was always a reluctant actress whose parents’ didn’t like the idea of their daughter becoming a full-fledged actress.
Maanu has danced at all the major cities across the globe. Maanu was also instrumental in releasing Singapore’s first-ever feature film Singaiyil Oru Kurukshetram in Tamil Nadu a few months back. Maanu was by the side of superstar Rajinikanth when he got admitted to Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital in May this year where he was treated for kidney-related disorder.
Rajini was apparently moved by Maanu’s love and affection. Rajini also took part in the recent stage play organized in Chennai by Singapore-based stage artistes. Though Rajini didn’t have anything to do with the stage play, he attended it only for the sake of Maanu who organized it. During her visit, Rajini was reportedly showed by Maanu a documentary drama titled Ezhudhadha Kadhai featuring her and a child.
The script was about a hapless young mother and her daughter caught in the civil war in Lanka. Rajini appreciated the movie whole-heartedly and suggested to Maanu that she has it in her to become a director. Courtesy the appreciation received from the superstar, Maanu is said to be gearing up to direct a Tamil film in the near future!
