Finally, Prabhudeva has admitted that he was under pressure from many quarters to change the title of his latest directorial venture. The bearded Prabhudeva has already had a film directed by him hitting the screens this year in ‘Engeyum Kaadhal’. The film, a romantic one, had ‘Jayam’ Ravi and Hansika in lead roles and was filmed entirely in and around France and Europe.
The soon-to-be-married Prabhudeva named his next film as ‘Prabhakaran’. Obviously, there was widespread opposition to using the name of the slain LTTE chief for a commercial film. Voices were raised criticizing Prabhudeva for using the title of the name of a man who fought and died for the Tamils’ cause. He then changed the title as ‘Prabha’ but found out soon enough that it was also not liked by many.
“I know that the title of ‘Prabhakaran’ was a powerful one. Yet, I had to change as I faced stiff opposition to using it. I then named the film as Vedi” said Prabhudeva. The film brings together for the first time Vishal and Sameera Reddy as on-screen pair. The film is Vishal’s home production and is produced by his brother Vikram Krishna’s G.K. Film Corporation.
Speaking to newsmen recently, Prabhudeva said he was highly hopeful of the film’s box-office prospects. The film, incidentally, is the Tamil remake of the Telugu hit ‘Souriyam’. Vishal’s character in the film is named ‘Prabhakaran’ (hopefully, there won’t be any voices raised to change it).
The publicity still show that Vishal and Sameera Reddy share great on-screen chemistry between them. “Both of them have done their roles perfectly and are most suited to their respective characters. The film has come out really well,” added Prabhudeva.
