‘Thala’ Ajith’s ‘Mankatha’s grand release is tomorrow – August 31! The makers, Ajith fans and Tamil film goers are equally excited about the movie and waiting for the grand opening of the movie. It is said that all the seats have been booked in theatres around the world for the days starting from the release date to the weekend.
After superstar’s ‘Endhiran’ this is the film that is going to have special early morning shows in some theatres in select cities. And, we can see fans waiting outside the theatres at 4 – 5 am in the morning like what they did for Rajini’s ‘Endhiran’.
The film that is produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies will be released by Sun Pictures as they have obtained the theatrical and satellite rights. Radhika Sarathkumar’s Radaan Media works will help Sun Pictures in the theatre release of the film.
Only the state of Kerala will not see the release of the film on this day as theatres have already been booked by big Malayalam films that are releasing on the eve of Ramzan. But, in other places it is being released in Tamil and Telugu, and also around the world with English subtitles on the same date that it releases in Tamil.
Ayngaran International, who has acquired the international release rights, is releasing the film worldwide mainly in US, Canada, Europe, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and Gulf.
After the change in the Government in Tamil Nadu, the producer Dhayanidhi Alagiri found difficult to sell the film. He negotiated with other production houses for its smooth release. First it was UTV Motion Pictures and Gemini Film Circuit that came into fray and later Suriya’s relative Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green that negotiated for buying the rights.
Gnanavel Raja bought the rights and it was also appeared in the ads that the film is released by Studio Green but with a surprising twist he withdrew and Sun Pictures jumped in!
‘Mankatha’ is Ajith’s 50th film that he acts with that salt and pepper hair and as a baddie. The film also features Arjun, Trisha, Vaibhav, Anjali, Andrea, Lakshmi Rai and Premji Amaren. The film is directed by Venkat Prabhu and tells the story about the cricket bookies.
