There has been a big hue and cry from various quarters against the hanging of the three convicts – Santhan, Murugan and Perarivalan, in the case of the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The film world has also expressed their views in the hanging of the convicts. Recently, veteran actor and DMDK leader ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth came out with his views in the above case. “The Killing of Rajiv Gandhi has to be condemned. But, the three convicts have already served 20 years of jail term. Killing them by hanging now cannot be justified as they already have gone through the punishment and regretting for their act.
It is also that while many countries in the world have abolished this punishment why should we have it? But, at the same time I strongly say that terrorism in any form should be condemned and eradicated”, the actor-politician said in a statement issued to the press.
Vijayakanth, after his last film ‘Viruthagiri’ – the directorial debut, has not signed any till now as he is concentrating only in politics. But, sources say very soon ‘Captain’ will come out with his announcement about his next venture in films.
