Director P Vasu, who has given some huge hits featuring leading stars like Superstar Rajini and Prabhu, is back after a hiatus. His Puli Vesham, starring R.Kay in the lead, tell you about an innocent man who turns a dada.

The movie revolves around Munian (R.K), the innocent turned underworld dada. The naïve youngster from a remote village becomes a dreaded dada who could fix anyone and anything for money. He spends the money to treat a girl who is in coma for six months. Who is that girl and why does he spend money for her?
The girl is the daughter of a rich man (Ilavarasu) in Muniyan’s native place. The rich man gives shelter to Muniyan at his earlier age after the death of his parents. Munian is given the responsibility of taking care of the girl. He takes the job very serioausly and gets trained in martial arts just to protect the girl in any circumstance. A unique bond develops between the boy and girl. Though it is not love, everyone suspects it to be a love and hence Munian is sent out of the village to save the girl. However, the girl doesn’t want to get parted with Munian. She secretly follows him and both of them get into an unexpected trouble in Chennai.
The turn of events put the girl in a hospital and makes Munian a gangster. Munian however, has some values and hence becomes an associate to an honest police officer (Karthik), who wants to eliminate the rowdies with the help of Munian. The officer sends a girl (Sadha) in the disguise of an orphan to Munian’s gang just to keep him under check.
Munian gets entangled with too many things before he could save his master’s daughter. There are many players operating at different levels including the cricket crazy Mansur Ali Khan (involved in supplying girls to the rich) and M.S. Bhaskar, a dreaded gangster. How he tackles everyone and achieves his goal forms the crux of the story.
P. Vasu has given some different twists to the usual ‘innocent-turned-ruffian’ storyline. He has managed to make the movie move fast with many twists and turns.
Plenty of characters with different shades make the script interesting. However, too much of complications mars the effectiveness of the script.
The lengthy flash back and Ilavarasu’s secret affair spoil the pace. He hasn’t succeeded in presenting R.K as an action hero credibly. Sadha and Karthik’s characters are half backed. The pace with which he becomes a leading dada is quite illogic and incredible.
R.K has tried his best to look like a powerful dada in most part of the movie. He has shed some weight and added some vigor in his facial expressions and body language. However, he has to go a long way to be considered as an action her. He has to hone his acting skills and dialogue delivery. His enacting of a naïve youth in the village is more credible and appreciable.
Sadha gets a role to play with apart from exposing her fare skin and curvaceous body. She does her part well but her characterization doesn’t give her ample scope to make a strong impact.
M.S. Bhaskar in a negative role stands out among a horde of actors. His dialogue delivery, expressions, and body language are quite impressive.
Karthik’s acting fails to click, as his mannerisms and bizarre diction irritate us. Mansur Ali Khan’s efforts to play a comical villain turns out to be a disastrous attempt.
Srikanth Deva hasn’t added any value to the fare. His music is quite unimaginative with the sole exception of Varen Varen, which sounds good.

Dragging second half, lengthy flashback, unwarranted sub-plots, and illogical sequences
Pulivesham could have been a racy action flick had Vasu and R.K have done their respective jobs better.
