The plight of fishermen has been a sensitive subject which has been touched upon in many movies. Here is a short film, exclusively aimed at projecting the way fishermen set out to sea everyday, without being sure of returning alive or in one piece. This movie is focused specifically on the lives of fishermen in and around Rameshwaram, and how they go about their regular fishing.

Young director Ashoke Kumar has taken a very sensitive subject for his maiden venture and has come out with flying colours. He has captured the hardships and threat to life the fishermen undergo, just to earn a hand-to-mouth living. The lead actors bring out the anguish of the poor, harassed fishermen perfectly.

In the movie, two fishermen kidnap a minister and take him on one of their regular fishing trips. The minister is shown first hand the struggle they undergo, how even after mastering the sea, the manner in which they are abused by the navies of neighbouring countries, how innocent lives are lost and how all this goes unnoticed.

The common man living in a city has no inkling of the atrocities taking place on the seas, except for the occasional TV news reports and newspaper articles. This movie takes the viewer right to the middle of the sea, the only witness to all these wrongdoings. Kudos to the director for bringing such a sensitive issue to the big screen, and packing it neatly within 14 minutes.
