Thala Ajith’s much awaited Mankatha, directed by Venkat Prabhu, is all set to hit screens by August end. The trailer, which was released recently, has created much hype and expectations. Meanwhile director Venkat Prabhu revealed some secrets about the film at a recent press meet in Chennai.
Firstly, he confirmed that Mankatha is a boys’ film and the story revolves around five persons; among them four are bad and the fifth is very bad (Ajith aka Vinayak). The director also thanked Ajith and Arjun for accepting the roles. He said 75% of the film has been shot in sets considering the security factor.
Recently, a section of the media speculated that Ajith might play a dual role in the film. However at the press meet Venkat Prabhu confirmed that Aijth has no double role. Interestingly, when Venkat wrote the first draft of the script, Ajith was never on his agenda. He kept his usual gang of boys in mind while writing the characters. Initially, they even considered Vivek Oberoi for the central character, but that didn’t work out.
So how did Ajith join the team? “One day, I got a call from Ajith sir, who congratulated me on my new movie. Later, he expressed his desire to perform a role similar to the character Heath Ledger had played in The Dark Knight. I was taken aback, since my lead hero’s role was similar to what he’d described. When I told him that I had a similar script, he immediately agreed. That’s how Thala came on board,” Venkat Prabhu said.
Mankatha has a huge star cast that includes Trisha, Anjali, Arjun, Vaibhav, Premji, Ashwin, Andrea and Mahanth. The film is produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri’s Cloud Nine Movies and Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director. Reportedly Mankatha is an action thriller which narrates the story of match-fixing sagas in international cricket matches.
