It was certainly a star-studded gala affair and the entire Tamil film fraternity expressed its gratitude to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his gesture to allocate land and housing for the technicians in the Tamil film industry.
Almost all the actors in the Tamil Industry were spotted at the function. Superstar Rajinikanth was seen seated next to the CM along with Kamal Haasan and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
Most of the leading heroes and heroines Sneha, Tamanna, Jayam Ravi, Poorna, Rukmini, Sandhya, Poonam Bajwa, Bharath, Keerthi Chawla, Prasanna, Shakthi, and Ramba, Srikanth, Lawrence, and Sunaina moved their legs on the stage to a packed audience at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor stadium, Chennai.
Whilst the audiences were being entertained, a few celebrities were seen standing as most of the seats at the venue were occupied. Actress Radhika was seen struggling to enter the venue, but her efforts ended up in vain. Trisha and ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ Vijay were noticed coming out of the same car.
On stage, The ‘Goa’ team comprising of Venkat Prabhu, Premji, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthik Raja and their sister Bhavatharini sang a song exclusively for Kalaignar. Karthi and Reemma danced to a song from their latest movie ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’.
Comedian Vivek, spoke a few words and made the audience laugh. Also comedians Santhanam and M S Bhaskar tried their bit but the audience seemed uninterested. S Ve Shekhar along with actress Kuyili performed a skit where the audience gave them a lukewarm response but the moment that was eagerly waited by the audience was Prabhu Deva’s dance performance with Nayantara. The entire stadium roared with excitement to see them together on stage. Dance master and philanthropist Larencce also performed with one of the kids from his dance school.
Many speakers thanked the CM, including actors Ajith, Vikram, Suriya, Sarath Kumar and Prakash Raj. As all were speaking in Tamil, Kamal Haasan was seen explaining the same to Amitabh Bachchan. The director of Amitabh starrer ‘Paa’, Balki was seen introduced to the CM by Rajini.
Actor Sathyaraj in his Periyar ‘get up’ dramatized a play about the Periyar-Karunanidhi relationship. The CM appeared to have been impressed with the play.
Among the new generation stars, Vishal and Arya were seen a lot together, throughout the event. The event comprised of a medley of songs, dances and skits. But the show stealer was a 10 minute video showing M. Karunanidhi’s works in the film industry. He was seen in tears after seeing a clipping from the yesteryear movie ‘Raja Rani’, where Chevalier Sivaji Ganesan renders a dialogue written by him.
The entire film fraternity thanked the man who allocated 90 acres of land for their housing and well being. It was their way of showing their gratitude to a friend, writer and a great leader.
