It is something very noble, novel and commendable in the history of movies. The Kanthaswamy movie crew, under the able leadership of the director Susi Ganesan and producer Kalaipuli S. Thanu has facilitated a charity group named ‘The Kanthaswamy Foundation’ to work for the cause of villages that lacks basic facilities and amenities.
As the first step, taking the help of NGOs, the crew had conducted a detailed research on the background of the villages and finally chosen two hamlets Sangampatti and Gandhipuram in Madurai district. Were there any criteria for the choice? “Yes,” says director Susi Ganesan. ‘We wanted to choose villages that were free of communal clashes.” With the collected funds, repair and restoration of dilapidated school buildings and poorly-maintained roads began.
The Foundation realized the magnitude of change that their service has brought about in the lives of inhabitants and word spread about the same. Consequently, many philanthropists came forward to share the monetary responsibility and the altruistic service; today, about 30 villages are under the foundation’s caring wing. Still, letters and applications keep pouring in and the team is tirelessly working towards inspiring like-minded individuals to take part in the charity work and achieving an all-round growth and development in the villages that are the heart and soul of our country.
All the very best to the team!
