Double Oscar winner A.R. Rahman was paid a whopping Rs. 1.5 crore for conducting the recent live mega music concert ‘Jai Ho’ held at Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode on May 3 (Sunday), organizers Global Kerala Initiative Keraleeyam (GKIK) said during a press conference.
P.V. Abdul Wahab, chairman of GKIK, said that the exact turnover of the show could be made available only after the accounts are finalized. A major portion of the proceeds had been earmarked for the rehabilitation of HIV-positive children. Earlier, the organizers claimed that they had sold tickets for seven crores.
The organizers targetted a net income of Rs. 10 crore, which would be the first capital for the school to be built for children in the central districts of the state. It will cater not only to HIV positive children from Kerala but also from neighbouring states. If everything goes as planned, the school should be ready in two years. The proposed school would be fully residential with all amenities and will also have the best of faculty.
