Lakshmi Rai’s latest movie 2 Harihara Nagar is rocking the scene in Malayalam cinema. The actress is riding high on its success and hopes the movies she has in hand will do her good too! “The movie is running to packed houses and I wasn’t able to get a ticket to watch my own Malayalam movie in Bangalore,” she exclaims. And what’s her part in the movie? “The movie revolves around my character. I come to stay at Harihara Nagar and play havoc in the lives of the four heroes. From the moment I heard the script, I knew the movie would make it big at the BO. All my co-stars too had the same opinion.”
She’s flaunting her booty in Vamanan [Tamil] where she plays a supermodel, and my, aren’t we eager to see her! “I am a supermodel in this movie and I have done many glamorous scenes in it. I got to wear bikinis and did some sensual hip shakes. I felt awkward wearing glamorous clothes, but my character had substance and demanded such glamour. At no point will I I come across as obscene.”
And she plays a cow girl in the Kollywood Western Irumbu Kottai Murattu Singam[Tamil]. “I was tired of playing eye candy roles and wanted to do some wham bam action. When Simbudevan approached me for the movie, I didn’t even bother to ask him who my hero was. I started dreaming about playing this role, a young lady who is in a completely different world and has a totally different gang. I liked the idea of wearing a leather hat and boots and firing a pistol! I have even started lessons in horse riding!” she says. And that’s not all!
Also on her platter is a Bollywood movie with Satish Kaushik called Hhey Gujju. “I agreed to do this movie at a time when I didn’t have any good offers from the South. When Dhaam Dhoom released, my career graph soared and many directors offered me lead roles. Since I have committed myself to a number of films in the South, I still haven’t started work for Hhey Gujju. I want to give it my best as well and don’t want anything to go wrong with my Bollywood debut. But, for me, South films are more important because I started my career here. I will do at least one South film a year,” she says, and we believe her, because we can’t afford to lose a cute gal like her to B-land!
