Some heroines like Ramya Krishnan seem to defy nature’s law – passing time never seems to have an influence on their appearance. More surprising than her evergreen beauty is the influence she has on her audiences; the beautiful actress has been in the field for the past 16 years and even today, people regard her with the curiosity reserved for a new and sensational entrant in Kollywood.
After her marriage, the natural instincts of a woman – to place her family above all – has taken over and the number of films she accepts has fallen. Though many speculated that the actress would soon bid adieu to acting, she laid these rumours to rest at a recent press meet.
The press meet was to celebrate the completion of 150 episodes of Kalasam, a serial on Sun TV in which Ramya plays the lead. Speaking on the occasion, Ramya said, “I am glad to be a part of this TV serial. It has added a new dimension to my personality. And it allows me to stay in touch with something that I love more than my life – acting. The best part is that unlike movies, it does not eat into the time that I dedicate to my family.” Rubbishing rumours that she is going to stop acting in movies, Ramya said, “I love acting in movies and have become more fastidious after marriage in selecting my roles. Even now, I am doing a powerful role in Aarumugam, which has Bharath in the lead. And this is the kind of role that I want to do. I have reached a point in life where I cannot dedicate my time to the stereotyed roles of Kollywood. I am more than willing to do roles that would be path-breaking or outstanding.”
It would be an understatement to say Ramya is the reason for Kalasam’s high TRP! The serial, which occupies the 8:30 to 9:00 p.m. slot on Sun TV, has a huge and dedicated fan following.
