The making of Kanchivaram must have been a totally different experience for its director Priyadarshan. Known more for his remakes and commercial productions, many of which have made their way to box-office top list, Priyadarshan secretly nurtured an yearning to make a film reflecting the plight of weavers in Tamil Nadu. He prepared the storyboard and cast versatile performers Prakashraj and Shreya Reddy in the lead roles.
The movie, a saga by itself, highlights the first trade union movement started by the weavers. Screened earlier this month, Kanchivaram won accolades at the IFFI Goa and also at the Toronto film festival. Kanchivaram is releasing in India on March 13th.
